SUMMARY:Exposition : Paysage témoin
DESCRIPTION:C’est à la mémoire des violences de masse\, telle qu’elle s’est déposée dans les forêts\, les fleuves\, les pierres\, la mer\, les sables du désert ou encore les murs et les pavés des villes\, qu’est dédiée cette exposition. Les traces en sont disséminées à travers la planète\, dans les paysages aménagés\, ruraux et urbains\, ou sauvages : cette mémoire façonne l’expérience quotidienne de l’espace au présent dans son rapport complexe à un passé souvent enfoui\, et elle questionne le futur. \nLes œuvres présentées ici documentent des événements survenus depuis le XIXe siècle jusqu’à nos jours en Europe centrale\, orientale ou en Asie : de la conquête du Turkestan par la Russie impériale à la destruction de villes et villages ukrainiens par la Russie de Poutine ; sites abandonnés du Goulag stalinien ; lieux de déportation des Baltes en Sibérie ; vestiges de la présence arménienne en Turquie\, lieux de la Shoah.  \nSi certains de ces espaces sont devenus des lieux de mémoire\, ce n’est pas cet aspect que retiennent la plupart des artistes et documentaristes\, mais bien une mémoire silencieuse\, parfois invisible\, énigmatique\, dérangeante dans sa feinte banalité\, son apparente immédiateté ou dans sa simplicité cruelle. Ces reportages visuels nous rappellent que les cicatrices de la mémoire ont été d’abord des blessures. \nCette exposition a pour but d’attirer l’attention sur le rôle essentiel du paysage dans les guerres et violences de masse\, tout comme dans la transmission de leur mémoire\, en montrant qu’elles ont affecté non seulement les humains\, mais aussi l’ensemble du vivant. \nVernissage le 31 mars à 13h – Inscription. \nVisite de l’exposition le 3 avril\, entre 14h à 17h – Inscription avant le 29 mars.

DESCRIPTION:Pouvoir et patrimoine culinaire : institutionnalisation de la nourriture et transformation des espaces\nPower and Culinary Heritage: Institutionalization of Food and Transformation of Spaces \n\nAida Aaly ALYMBAEVA (independant researcher) :\n«Culinary Heritage in the Crossroads: Transformation and Institutionalisation in Central Asia»\nDrawing on ethnographic research in the Kyrgyzstani settlement of Chelpek and analysis of digital media\ndiscourses\, this paper examines how food simultaneously signifies ethnic belonging and national identity at local\,\nnational\, and digital levels. It traces how culinary practices\, rooted in memory and everyday rituals\, transform into\ninstitutionalised heritage through both grassroots initiatives and state-driven narratives. Central Asia’s position as\na historical and contemporary crossroads shapes its culinary heritage\, creating a space for negotiation between\nnomadic/sedentary constructed dichotomy\, Soviet legacies\, and post-socialist nation-building. The paper extends\nheritage studies by showing institutionalisation as a creative\, multi-sited process that occurs within ongoing social\ntransformations. Instead of viewing culinary heritage as a static tradition\, I suggest that it emerges through\ndynamic contestations between local lived practices and formal efforts of heritage construction. This illuminates\nthe tensions between vulnerable pasts and uncertain futures in the post-socialist space. \n\nSergey ABASHIN (independant researcher) :\n«Tajik Qurutob: In Search of New National Brands»\nFood is one of Central Asia’s key brands\, actively promoted as part of the region’s international (tourismrelated)\nimage. As a shared cultural heritage and the result of migration\, intermingling and exchange\, food also\nbecomes a battleground for competition between various nation states\, each striving to establish its own brand of\nnational dishes. This tension between transnational/regional and national representations of Central Asian food\ntriggers numerous and sometimes heated debates\, in which the ethnic origins of dishes are discussed alongside\ntheir class-based\, traditional/modern\, unhealthy/healthy\, and authentic/inauthentic characteristics. One such\ndebate concerns the question of who indeed owns the dish ‘qurutob’\, which has become popular in Tajikistan in\nrecent years and has already spread beyond its borders. The overview of various opinions on ‘qurutob’ presented\nin this paper will shed light on the identities and debates surrounding them that currently define the social and\ncultural landscape of Central Asia. \n\nMaria EMANOVSKAYA (independant researcher) :\n« La soviétitude de la nourriture en Russie post-soviétique »\nSince the end of the Soviet Union\, questions of “culinary heritage” in Russia have largely remained\noutside the direct interest of central power\, developing instead through a dispersed ecosystem of regional\nadministrations\, enthusiasts\, amateur historians\, chefs\, and nationalist food entrepreneurs. In 2025\, this relatively\ninformal settlement was disrupted when the Ministry of Industry and Commerce created a special commission\ntasked with codifying “Russian cuisine.” This intervention has rapidly turned culinary heritage into an arena of\nopen conflict. Who has the authority to define the national canon\, whose regional and minority foodways count as\n“Russian\,” and which pasts (and futures) this canon is meant to legitimate?\nThis presentation analyzes the controversies triggered by the new State-led codification project as a\nwindow onto competing heritage regimes. It asks how “gastronomic patriotism” becomes institutionalized\, and\nhow the translation of everyday food practices into official heritage generates friction between long-standing\nactors of culinary heritagization and newly empowered doctrinal gatekeepers.
